Background
Surveying road sections for guardrail work was done by hand, on paper and with follow-up work back at the office. It was time-consuming and left room for errors.
Garda Road Safety needed a tool that field workers can use directly outdoors, on a tablet, with large buttons and a simple workflow.
The solution
We developed an Android app where a section is recorded with start and end points, photos and metadata, and the distance is calculated automatically.
- GPS recording. Start and end points, with the section length calculated automatically.
- Photos and metadata. Road number, direction, side, guardrail type and municipality.
- Export. Data out to Excel/CSV for further use.
- Designed for the field. Simple UX adapted to tablets and outdoor use.
The result
Garda Road Safety gets its surveying digitised right in the field, with one shared data set instead of paper and manual follow-up work.
